Bota (Porridge)

Thick breakfast cereal prepared by mealie meal. Most people prefer the porridge  flavoured with peanut butter (dovi), baobab powder(mawuyu), sour maheu (maheu akavira), butter, lemon, huchi (honey), mukaka(milk).

 

Preparation Instructions

  1. Add 2 cups of water
  2. (Optional) Add a dash of salt into a pot.
  3. Bring the water to boil
  4. Add one and half maize meal to cold water and make a paste
  5. Add the paste into the boiling water
  6. Simmer for at least 20 minutes, continually stirring every five minutes
  7. (Optional) Add sugar into the porridge
  8. (Optional) Add the flavourant(see the flavourant options above) into the pot
  9. Simmer for at least 7 more minutes
